Being a new worker is challenging. When you experience new thing for the first time. You meet and work with new people. You do and handle tasks for the first time. People around you expect you will do the best thing like they do. When you cannot meet their expectation you will end up blaming yourselves. You hate yourself for not being able to manage and handle every tasks. The truth is this is your first time. You have no idea what to do. All things are new for you. As a new comer we need to be able to adapt with all situations that will come along the way.

I was graduated from college in 2022. I have no idea what to do in my life back then. I only knew if I had to work hard and earn money as much as possible to live my life to the fullest. In this digital era the certificate of bachelor degree is not enough. We will compete with people around the world, especially in our country and hometown. From there, we must prepare the skills needed by joining internship and volunteering activities. Joining communities also helps us to build leadership and communication skills.

I knew how it feels, after we graduated people around us will ask several questions about the career that we’re going to choose. I know it’s hard. I know it’s not easy. When you have so many questions to ask but you also don’t know the answers. Take a deep breath. Slow down. Give yourself permission to rest. Then after you feel better you can start again. No one has it all figure it out. Try many things to know your true calling. Learn how to bounce back from failure. The most important thing is that you enjoy the process and you become a better person.

After working for 3 months here are things that I learned. And I hope this will help for those who are struggling to adapt as a new worker.

  1. Be a fast learner. You can learn from people around you. If you do not know what to do always asking for help. Do not be afraid to connect with new people. We never know if that person will be our partner to collaborate and create impactful things in the near future. Be brave!
  2. Don’t take things personally. This is very important. Keep in mind if you cannot make people on the earth liked you, and that is not your job to make them liked you. In this life, you will meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and characteristics. Whether you like it or not. There are so many things you can learn from them. It will help you to improve your interpersonal skills and teamwork. When people do unpleasant things to you, do not take it personally. As long as it does not bring disadvantage in your life, then let them be. Trying to think positively.
  3. Manage your expectations. Everyting around us is neutral based on the way we see and feel the things. Managing expectation will help you avoid unpleasant things and feelings. It will help you to reduce your stress at work.
  4. Learn from mistakes. It’s okay to make mistake. Evaluate your progress by asking feedback from co-workers. From there, you know things to do in order to develop your skills and capabilities.
  5. Enjoying the process. We often take this life seriously and ended up missing the moments. Enjoying every moments cause we cannot go back to that moment again. Celebrate yourself for always trying to be the person that your future self will thank you later. Small progress is progress.
  6. Stop comparing yourself with others. You are enough. There’s no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it’s their time.

That’s all that I can share based on my experienced. I’m still learning all the time. I hope all of you get the life that you deserve and be happy ☺.
